Larbert High School
Secondary 3 Community Arts Class
The school's Community Arts class have great fun using art as a method of engaging with the school's wider community and get involved in very worthwhile projects. The school had identified that they wished their class to undertake a glass art project that would assist them, to tie in with the school's enterprise initiative and raise funds towards supporting Strathcarron Hospice. Given the time of year, it seemed feasible to introduce the pupils to glass art methods that would enable them to make decorations for sale leading up to Christmas.
I proposed teaching two main skills, namely etching (by sandblasting) and fusing, with a little bit of slumping thrown in for good measure). These videos show the stages of the processes and, from the nature of their designs, I think you can see how much fun they had.
